The most tempting item on the menu is undoubtedly Blame Canada, a towering stack made up of a beef patty, maple-glazed streaky bacon, American cheese and poutine.
When deep hunger hits, there's no more satisfying solution than a burger. Over the past few years, Australians have gone mad for buns crowded with local beef, American cheese, secret sauces and crispy lettuce. In Parramatta, some of the nation's tastiest burgers are to be found, from BL's Blame Canada to the Paper Plane Burger, laced with peanut butter.
Soundtracked by hip-hop and backdropped by bright street art, BL Burgers are bursting with flavour. They landed in Parramatta in May 2017, having won over hordes of ravenous locals in Darlinghurst and Bondi Beach. The most tempting item on the menu is undoubtedly Blame Canada, a towering stack made up of a beef patty, maple-glazed streaky bacon, American cheese and poutine. There are free arcade games, including Pac Man and pinball, and outside seating overlooking Parramatta Square.
3/188 Church Street Parramatta 2150; Open daily 12:00pm - 9:00pm

Burger Project is the creation of Neil Perry, owner of Rockpool Dining Group. The eatery opened in Parramatta in March 2017 and there are now twelve branches along Australia's East Coast. All beef comes from one source: the idyllic meadows of Cape Grim, North Western Tasmania. Meanwhile, the chicken is free-range and the soft serve ice cream is churned on the premises daily. The ultimate experience is the Magic Deluxe: a beef patty, crumbed confit mushroom, cheese, onion, pickles, tomato, lettuce and house-made secret sauce. Pale timber, pendant lighting and expansive windows give the 80-seater space a light, airy feel.
1-2/134-140 Marsden Street Parramatta; Open Monday - Saturday 11:00am - 9:00pm and Sunday 11:00am - 8:00pm.
Paper Plane Cafe
Peanut butter might not be the first ingredient that comes to mind when it comes to burgers, but that's exactly what you'll find on a Paper Plane Burger, in addition to a beef patty, bacon, Swiss cheese, tomato and lettuce—all flanked by a brioche bun. The flower-dotted, timber-tabled cafe of Paper Plane feels a bit like a welcoming country kitchen and is owned by local couple Carla Sariano and Ben Mora, who, before opening, spent six months travelling around South America, finding inspiration. Also on the menu is the BBQ Whiskey Burger, which comes lathered in two types of housemade sauce: BBQ whiskey and Guinness cheese.
5/2 Horwood Place Parramatta 2150; Open Monday - Friday 7:30am - 3:00pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:00am - 3:00pm.
Bavarian Bier Cafe
A burger at the Bavarian Bier Cafe isn't just a meal—it's an excuse for a cracking night out. The Cafe's home is a beautiful, restored church, with high ceilings and stained glass windows. But, there's no cause for solemnity. Instead, the focus is on devouring irresistible burgers and sampling Bavarian bier. In fact, every burger is matched with a brew, from the Classic Shack Cheese Burger, which pairs perfectly with a pale lager, to the Chicken Schnitzel Burger, which goes down a treat with a dark wheat bier.
2-8 Phillip Street Parramatta 2150; Open Monday - Thursday 11:00am - 11:00pm, Friday-Saturday 11:00am - 1:00am and Sunday 11:00am - 10:00pm.
Vegans and carnivores seeking a break from beef, this one's for you. Soul Burger dishes up delicious burgers with names such as Chilli Beef, Southern Fried Chicken and Battered Fish, but you won't find so much as a skerrick of flesh anywhere. Anything that looks or tastes like meat is actually a plant in disguise. This is the eatery's third incarnation, after Glebe and Randwick. Hungry diners should go for a Soul B Special: two plant-based beef patties, slaw, onion rings, caramelised onion, cheese, cheese sauce and Soul B sauce, washed down with a coconut ice cream shake.
316 Church Street Parramatta 2150; Open Monday 12:00pm - 3:30pm and 5:00pm - 8:30pm, Tuesday - Friday 12:00pm - 3:30pm and 5:00pm-9:30pm, Saturday 12:00pm - 9:30pm and Sunday 12:00pm - 8:30pm.
...okay, that was 6 but who's counting.
