Parramatta Heritage & Visitor Information Centre

Visitor Services

The Centre’s friendly staff provide a unique starting point for discovering Parramatta - the city that tells the story of Australia!  The Centre combines visitor information; a local research and family history library; Council’s archives and cultural collections, school holiday programs and education activities, and room hire for businesses and community organisations, all under one roof.  Our Hosts & Guides are a wealth of knowledge to help plan your visit and can indulge you with information about all things to see and do in the Parramatta region. 

Research & Collection Services

The Research Services staff are specialists, particularly with family history and local studies. the Research Library hold a wealth of records and references to help unravel family history or research Parramatta’s cultural, natural or built heritage. Curious about the history of your house? Proposing a development on a heritage site? Writing a school project, thesis or book? You’ll find many helpful resources both on-line at http://arc.parracity.nsw.gov.au/ and original objects, texts, family history, records and maps can be viewed at the Research Library.

Room Hire

The Heritage Gallery Room is available for hire to businesses and community organisations. It’s suitable for small boardroom style meetings of 10- 12 people or up to 20 for short theatre style meetings and presentations. For details phone (02) 8839 3311.

Getting to and around Parramatta

Parramatta is easily accessible by bus, train, car and ferry.  Go to www.transportnsw.info to plan your trip.  You can also explore easily on foot once you arrive!

The ferry arrives at the end of Phillip Street and on most days you will be greeted by our Host & Guides who can orientate you and help you plan your time in Parramatta.  The Parramatta Heritage & Visitor Information Centre is only a 10 minute leisurely walk along the river foreshore to Church St for more information on all things to see and do. 

Parramatta CBD is serviced by a free shuttle bus which is a hop on hop off service.  Explore Parramatta’s diverse cultural food scene, in particular our “Eat St” precinct, shopping, Riverside Theatres, Parramatta Stadium and Parramatta Park just to name a few highlights!

We are located at 346A Church Street, Parramatta (opposite Riverside Theatres) and are open 9:00am to 5:00pm, 363 days per year!
